Raquél Pérez of Providence, Rhode Island was awarded the lifetime opportunity of serving as the Providence representative for the Miss Rhode Island competition in August of 2020. As the representative for Providence, Raquél uses her title to make a difference in the lives of others and promote the importance of community service. She has championed her platform, ‘Service Year Alliance’ where she has spent the last decade dedicating herself to volunteerism and helping others through life’s challenges. Raquél joined AmeriCorps in 2017 where she aided local businesses, nonprofits and communities. She currently serves as the Communications Co-Chair for AmeriCorps Alums Steering Committee Board. More than 5,000 individuals in Providence have benefited from her service and work in affordable housing advocacy, youth programming, corporate fundraisers and financial literacy education. Raquél has also partnered with multiple initiatives including: working with Senator Jack Reed to keep AmeriCorps funding, partnering with the state’s service commission, Serve Rhode Island, to improve recruitment strategies, lobbying in Congress in favor of increasing funds for AmeriCorps and SeniorCorps as well as assisting in the strategic planning of The Cornerstone: supportive housing for Transition-Age Youth.

Raquél’s commitment to helping others can also be seen in her career. She works as a full-time neonatal ICU nurse, per diem COVID response team nurse and a freelance content creator. Her future ambitions include obtaining her DNP and becoming an NICU Nurse Practitioner. She is also a proud first-generation college graduate. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Rhode Island where she has been recognized for her countless accomplishments Including: University of Rhode Island 10 Under 10 Award winner 2019, Forbes 30 Under 30 Fellow 2018 and AmeriCorps Alums' Segal Leadership Award Winner 2019-2020.
